A new bath seat for kids with disabilities plus your chance to win one

Fun in the tub is a quintessential right of childhood. Enter the Splashy portable bath seat for kids with disabilities who require head and trunk support. It's designed for children one to eight years old, maximum 66 pounds. Besides the bath and shower, the tub's been tested and approved for use with water-play activities, in the garden and at the beach. At 9 pounds, it's super-portable.

The Splashy is from Firefly by Leckey, the same company behind the genius Upsee mobility device and Scooot and the sponsors of this post. Product designer David Turner has a daughter with special needs who loves baths but had a seat that was bulky, uncomfortable and didn't recline; David had to support her with his arm. So he set out to create a seat for Vida and children like her.

The Splashy is made from EVA foam, a soft material similar to what's used in Crocs, and retails for $399. It has a seat base, a backrest and a base and comes with 4 bumper supports, 2 lateral and 2 shoulder straps, and a groin strap to create a five-point harness or a three-point one. There are 26 recline positions, from upright to full recline. The seat back is 24 inches high x 15 inches wide, and the seat base is 12 inches deep x 14 inches wide.

Colors include blue, green and pink, and you can pick any seat and harness/bumper color combination you'd like. It folds flat for storage, and there's a hook to hang it up. It's not yet covered by insurance, but the Firefly people are working on that. Also! It comes with a rubber duck.

Giveaway!

Enter below to win a Splashy (worth $399). This giveaway ends on Thursday, April 13 at 12:00 a.m. and is open to residents of the United States only, and the District of Columbia (excluding Puerto Rico and all other U.S. territories). The winner will be selected by random drawing within 48 hours after the contest ends and notified by email.

You must leave a comment below to enter (feel free to note how the Splashy could benefit your child) then click on the entry form to provide your email, privately. You can score bonus entries, too—see details and the full rules on the Rafflecopter entry form. Good luck!

  4. My daughter has a rare genetic condition called ponto cerebellar hypoplasia which, in leymans terms means an underdeveloped brain. She loves bath time but has high tone and a lot of spasticity. bath time is challenging and this would be a great safe way to bathe her and give her some freedom to play in a bath tub like other babies do!

  5. Love how comfortable this looks! My daughter tried the Columbia high back seat which is similar. We could even use this at the beach!

  6. This seat looks awesome! I would totally enter the giveaway, but at age 2 1/2 my daughter can now officially sit in the tub unsupported! We're so happy about it! Crossing my fingers this blesses a family who could really use it!

  12. I like the design of this bather and would greatly help my daughter who is spastic quad cerebral palsy. Its hard having to deal with her disability but having equipment that can help benefit her would help the day to day living. Thanks for your kindness.

  13. This will be so helpful for my 2 year olde son who has very low muscle tone. We are currently still using a baby bath tub that he is outgrowing beacuse he needs the support.

    ReplyDelete
  14. My son still takes a bath using a baby sponge (he's almost 5), this would be a wonderful improvement for both of us!

    ReplyDelete
  15. This would be so great for my 19m old. We primarily bathe in the sink still, he is too wide for most baby bath tubs and we are still fighting with insurance to try an get a bath seat (but I'm sure it won't be a functional as this one) this would be so great to have to really participate in other fun water activities as a family.

  16. This would be amazing for my son as a throne is very difficult for us currently! I can't imagine the fun he would be able to have!

  17. My daughter will be 4 next month. She has outgrown all infant bath seats available. She has Spastic Cerebral Palsy. She is unable to sit up without assistance so currently I have to get in with her to hold her. It is getting harder because she is growing. This would allow her the freedom to sit and play on her own. I could wash her without the fear of her slipping out of my grip. Absolutely love how you can customize the positions of everything to meet your specific needs unlike most special needs bath chairs. Plus as an added bonus we can use it as a floor sitter and outside chair. Cassie Hayes

  26. Thank you for this opportunity! My son has cerebral palsy and is rapidly getting too big for us to lift in and out of the tub safely. The bath seat covered by insurance simply doesn't work for us, and we have been unable to afford an alternative. I have heard wonderful things about many Firefly products and would love to win the Splashy so that we can give our son a safer and more enjoyable bath experience.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I'm entering bc I'd love this for my friend's daughter. As she gets older and bigger these innovations become even more important.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Love this!! All of the other available bath seats are too big for my tiny 5 year old, or too small, if it's a traditional bath seat...this one looks perfect!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Josh would love this. He is so active in the bath but needs support would love to win for hi.

    ReplyDelete
  30. My son could really use this. He would love to be able to get a bath with his little brother. We live an hour from the beach and go often, this would help my son have some independence to play in the sand and waves.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Well as i see it, alot of kiddos would benifit from this bath seat,i wish there were more giveaways or discounts that could be applied due to alot of insurances not covering expensive seats. My 4 year old daughter has dandy walker and severe scoliosis amoung other issues and we are just barely fitting in a old baby bouncer so we can get a decent bath in. Would love to have this product!

    ReplyDelete
  32. That bath chair looks so comfy my daughter would finally be able to enjoy the tub in this seat she maybe half mermaid lol but she rarely gets a chance to enjoy a bath .

  37. This would work wonderful for my daughter she is almost 7yo and in a wheelchair. We had a bath chair made of mesh and it frayed and is no longer safe. This one looks so durable I love it

    ReplyDelete
  38. My 2 year old grandson, who has severe cp and is not ambulatory would be a perfect candidate for this Firefly bath chair. It would make bathing him so much easier for his parents.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I would love to replace our huge honking bath seat with something that folds! Cool product.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I have an online friend who has a granddaughter that could definitely benefit from one of these seats. If I win I would gift it to her family.

    ReplyDelete
  41. This would be perfect for my 2 year old son with Menkes Disease. We currently bathe in an under the bed wrapping paper storage container and are about to outgrow it.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I love how happy this looks. Not medical.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Addison Rohl needs this so much. If I win, I would gift it to her. She would love to take a bath without her parents having to hold her in the tub. What a big step this would be for her.

    ReplyDelete
  44. This would benefit my daughter so much

    ReplyDelete
  45. I know a baby girl who desperately needs this, it would help her parents so very much. Love to all who deal with these children on a daily basis. They are so precious!!

  46. This seat would be awesome to have. Not only for bath time but also for my daughter's new kiddie pool. I wondered how we would be able to have her play without us holding her and this would be amazing.

  47. This seat looks super comfortable for my son- we would love to have one!

  48. We've had our eye on this product since it was released! We haven't yet been able to afford a bath chair for our little girl with a rare genetic condition and know she would absolutely love this!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Would love to have one for my twins!

    ReplyDelete
  50. This would be perfect for my daughter! She has severe scoliosis and chest wall deformity caused by a bilateral congenital diaphragmatic hernia. She also was recently diagnosed with dyspraxia. She can't support herself correctly in a sitting position and has a hard time with her motor control and movement planning. In the tub when she's wet and slippery it gets so much worse. It takes two people to bathe her, one to support her and another to wash. Our bathroom is small, and it's getting so difficult to keep this routine up. This bath seat would be a lifesaver!

    ReplyDelete
  51. This would make bath time easier and more fun for my twins!

    ReplyDelete
  52. I'd love this so much! Our 4 yr old is autistic & is very tiny at 33 lbs. He is scared in the bath because the slightest movement causes him to loose his balance and start to slide. He fights to recline his head even with my arm at his back. This would be amazing for him.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I was just looking at this for my son with low muscle tone. We are looking for creative ways to bathe him as he is rapidly outgrowing the baby bathtub. It would be amazing to win one.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Omg we've been looking at this seat for a few weeks now. We currently don't have a bathseat for my 3 year old daughter and we are just taking turns holding her in the shower but this would make It super easier for us. She loves to play in the bath but cannot sit independently on her bottom. It would be so amazing to win this!

    ReplyDelete
  55. My almost 3 year old would love this. ❤ Would make bathing and swimming so much fun!

I hAve looked at this seat several times. I would love one for my almost 2 year old who has congenital myotonic muscular dystrophy.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I've been looking into this seat for a little while now. My 13 month old has Cerebral Palsy and weighs 32 lbs. He's outgrown all of the baby bath chairs and I have to get in the tub with him everyday to hold him up and bathe him at the same time, it's a fiasco every bath! I need to get this bath seat for him, I just haven't been able to buy it on my own yet. I'd love to be able to take this out during the summer too and let him sit in a little pool or something.

    ReplyDelete
  58. This would be so helpful for my 2 year old daughter who has Epilepsy and severe global delays. We are currently using a commercial infant bath tub and this makes bath time difficult due to her high tone but poor trunk control. This would improve her safety in water greatly. Thank you for this opportunity.

    ReplyDelete
  59. This would help my daughter Vienna with cp. she underwent bilateral hip surgery on March 23 and is no longer able to be bathed in the sink. She loves baths but we have been only been able to give her sponge baths since her surgery. She is in a lot of pain The splashy bath seat would give her the opportunity to sooth her sore muscles because she is unable to have her usual therapy. Your consideration and lovely blog are greatly appreciated by our family.
    Thank you,
    Kerri Zucaro

  60. My son would love the splashy, to use in the bathtub and the pool, and maybe someday on a beach if we are able to go to one! He doesn't sit up on his own so this would be perfect!

    ReplyDelete
  61. My daughter enjoys the water but we have to be super careful since she has a trach. This would make bathing time so much more enjoyable for our daughter with arthrogryposis Mutliplex congenita.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I love the fact it would actually fit in our old tub!

    ReplyDelete
  63. I love that the chair is so low to the ground and the colors are so fun and inviting!

    ReplyDelete
  64. My niece would love this and it would make things easier for my mom

    ReplyDelete
  65. This is amazing!!!! Our son could definitely benefit from this.

    ReplyDelete
  66. We'd love it for our son. It'd be a big blessing!

    ReplyDelete
  67. This would be AMAZING for my son. We currently are essentially doing sponge baths because we've yet to find something he likes that supports him (head and trunk wise) during bath time.

    ReplyDelete
  68. We were so excited to see this new product released. Many of the medical bath seats sit to high in the water to actually allow your child to play. The Splashy seat not only gives your child an opportunity to bath safely, but to have FUN doing so. My son would love for his little brother to have this so they can finally bathe together!

    ReplyDelete
  69. This bath chair would be amazing for my boys, Aidyn and Liam. They both were born with Lowe Syndrome and have very low muscle tone which makes bath time hard. This would really help to improve bath time for my boys and for mom and dad also.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Bath time is my son Max's favorite time! He just loves the water. Max has a rare and severe form of muscular dystrophy. He has extremely low tone and requires 24/7 use of a ventilator. This can make bath time complicated but this seat would help so much. Max could have so much fun reaching his toys and splashing while safely strapped in! This would be such a help! :)

    ReplyDelete
  71. We would LOVE to have the Splashy in our house! This would be so awesome because bathing while traveling would be so much easier. It would also be fun to be able to have both our boys take baths together safely.

    ReplyDelete
  72. This bath chair would be great for my grandson he has no diagnosis! He has low muscle tone so this chair would allow his parents and/or nurse to actually bathe him in the tub. He doesn't know what it's like to have a regular bath. I would love to win this for him.

    ReplyDelete
  73. My 2 year old son is medically fragile with a trach, ventilator, feeding tube, epilepsy, visual impairment, inability to sweat, heat intolerance, and poor motor control. He is unable to sit on his own and requires full head and trunk support. His current bath chair sits high up such that he can't be covered with water and has only a chest strap to hold him in place. A bath chair like this would allow him to sit more upright, actually submerge in the water, and enjoy kiddie pools, beaches, and splash pads. Given that he must be wet to avoid overheating in the hot TX outdoors, this chair would be invaluable.

    ReplyDelete
  74. My son has a very rare form of muscle dystrophy called MTM. This would benefit him Alot since he can only hold his head up for short periods of time. It would give a chance for him and his brother to play in the bathtub face to face.

    ReplyDelete
  75. This bath chair would be so beneficial for my daughter! She is 5 with spastic quad CP & is unable to sit by herself. I've bathed her by holding her in the tub since she was a baby. As she gets bigger, she wants to stay & play more, but we usually don't as much because it takes a toll on my back. Also, the warm water helps her tight muscles that I know soaking in the water for a while would do so much good! This would truly make a world of difference in our nightly routines! Thank you for your consideration!

    ReplyDelete
  76. This bath chair would be amazing for my one year old! Nothing works for him right now so we are stuck with sponge baths, which he hates.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Been wanting one for my daughter since they started advertising. She loves bath time, but now that she sits/lays in a typical special needs bath seat, really can't play in the water. She thrashes about, trying to get into the water, but it's not the same. Crossing my fingers we can win one, or they would go down in price!

    ReplyDelete
  78. My little guy (age 2) is paralyzed below the waist and has developmental delays. His favorite time of day is bath time. We would love to win this seat and know that he would benefit from it for a long time :)

Would love this for my 4.5 year old daughter. She has Lissencephaly, Microcephaly, quadriplegic cerebral palsy and epilepsy among other diagnosis. This would be perfect for her and mommy's back. We are using g a large baby tub from buy buy baby she no longer fits in but can't afford anything else at the moment.

    ReplyDelete
  80. This would be perfect for my CP daughter who loves bath time! Would LOVE to have one for her!

    ReplyDelete
  81. This is a great seating system that I would gift to my friend who's son is currently undiagnosed. His low tone makes positioning tricky and this would allow him to be a part of more activities with his family and big brother.

    ReplyDelete
  82. We would love this seat! Our son Grayden(4) would be able to enjoy a bath with his sister and actually immerse some of his body in the water!
