Thank you for hosting again Ellen. I always look forward to seeing what all my other special needs parents are up too!
ReplyDeleteAs a counselor who specializes in helping special needs families, there are a few 'dark' thoughts that parents have shared with me over the years...that it would be easier to raise their child without their spouse, that they hope their child dies first, and so on.
ReplyDeleteThe really rotten thing is, after years of helping these families, I know just how common and understandable these thoughts are.
My hope in sharing them is to take away some of the taboo and make it OK for parents to acknowledge the reality of having these difficult thoughts.
I've also shared a few ideas for how to manage having these thoughts when they're troubling, which I hope is valuable to anyone struggling with them.
Take care everyone
Thanks for starting this up again!
