Special Needs Blogger Weekend Link-Up: Sharing is caring
It's the Special Needs Blogger Weekend Link-Up, which means it's Friday, which is a Very Good Thing.
The idea
Link to a favorite post of the week—yours or someone else's. Note: A few people have had issues posting using Internet Explorer. Try a different browser!
What to do
Scroll all the way down to the bottom of this post. Where it says "Your name" put the name of the blog followed by the title of the post (or just the name of the post, if there's no room—you get 80 characters).
Like this: Love That Max: Can we celebrate my birthday every day?
Where it says "Your URL" put the direct link to the post.
Click "Enter." Leave a comment if you want to say more. Go check out some great posts.
Happy linking!

Excited about another Love That Max LinkUp! Linking up a post about my nearly 30 year relationship with my husband despite our struggles with our 17yo disabled daughter.
ReplyDeleteLast week I talked about our fall, which has been . . . tough. It has me "running to stand still."
ReplyDeleteThanks Ellen for helping to spread the word on this!
ReplyDeleteHi everyone, it's the weekend! I've linked up with most #15, but please be aware it includes some upsetting thoughts. Have a great weekend, and take care.

Oops, any chance you can remove #25? I went into Chrome to post and didn't realize it had stored what I'd posted last week. #26 is the correct one, about how "self-talk" helps children with Down syndrome (and likely others) work through thoughts and feelings and to make decisions.
ReplyDeleteEllen....
ReplyDeleteHi, I am not linking up to this post or anything. I'm simply commenting. Remember a few posts back when you--and everyone else--discussed whether or not we should say/write the word "suffer" concerning "special needs"/learning disabilities? To which I wholeheartedly agreed. Well. I have been feeling quite contradicting ever since this post, and you opened up my eyes. How so? My youngest brother may not suffer from Down syndrome. {Which is true!!} However. I've said/written that I suffer from premature short-term memory loss. {Which feels true, when even as a girl growing up, I could not memorize things, and people comment how I'm much too young for "brain farts".} From here on forward, I intend to alter my wording. I am a writer. I can do that!! From here on forward, I shall say/write this. "I struggle with premature short-term memory loss.". Which is not at all far from the truth. Thanks, Ellen, for the perspective!! ;)

I would say if it negatively impacts YOU then you suffer from short term memory loss but you can't speak for other people. Nor can you assume someone with a syndrome suffers simply because they HAVE that syndrome.
DeletePremature short-term memory loss--which I have had my entire life--does, in fact negatively impact me at times. Yes sir. Or miss. I'm afraid I did not catch your name!! Anyway. No, I can NOT speak--or write--on behalf of anybody else. You are absolutely correct. I can only speak--or write--for myself. And I STRUGGLE with premature short-term memory loss. It really sucks sometimes. But I do not, do not, do not SUFFER from premature short-term memory loss. That is negative thinking, don't you think? I was simply giving credit to whom credit is due, and thanking Ellen for altering my perspective. Good night, and I appreciate you not being mean with your words!! ;)

I'm super excited about my post this week, because it's my first-ever GIVEAWAY!
ReplyDeleteThe app I'm giving away (aacorn) is an amazing new concept in AAC. I'm really excited about it.
The link is #28 above - share it with anyone who might benefit, as I have five copies to give!
I love that you host this every week to give so many of us a chance to connect with each other!
ReplyDeleteThis week I started something big. I decided to start a monthly service challenge for anyone who would like to include their kids (grandkids, nieces, nephews, etc.) in service. It can be small acts of kindness or community service projects. #35
I'd love to see any of you join us!
I just started blogging last month - thanks so much for the inspiration Ellen!
ReplyDeleteMy best friend is a teacher and we do a good job of keeping each other open minded. Teachers, students, parents etc., we remember the person behind the label!
ReplyDeleteHappy Friday!!!
So happy to have something to share! http://www.examiner.com/article/the-surprising-sport-your-special-needs-child-should-try
