A good iPad case for kids with special needs is hard to find. This I know because we've been through a bunch, and none of them were easy for Max to grasp. Then Max's speech therapist at school recommended the Gripcase, the company sent me one and a stand to trial, and we are in love.
The case is really easy for a kid with fine-motor skills to grasp, because of the cut-out design. It's super lightweight—7.05 ounces, made of some high-tech foam. It's shock resistant, and has bounced impressively when Max has accidentally dropped it. It's easily washable. Also key (for us, anyway): It comes in purple! As well as black, blue, green and red. It fits 2nd, 3rd and 4th generation iPads. The one add-on you might want to consider is a clear screen protector, in case your child drools.
The back of the case
Max totes his Gripcase into a restaurant. As if he's headed to a business lunch! You know, like any exec who wears shorts and Lighting McQueen sneakers.
I'm giving away two Gripcases in your child's choice of color.
One is donated by the company, one I'm buying. Each case is worth $39. You can enter below; the giveaway ends 5/22/2013 at 11:59 p.m. (see "Terms and Conditions" for more information).
We would LOVE a case like this for my youngest son, Sam, who has speech delays. He always wants to use the iPad but I am so afraid he will drop it. I have 5 kids in total and all have special needs of one kind or another.
ReplyDeleteThanks :)
This case would be a lifesaver! Our Jaxon loves all things technology, but doesn't quite have the gross motor skills (or coordination) to handle them. Jaxon would love the case in blue or red (if available)!
ReplyDeleteThis case would save me some serious anxiety. My daughter uses the iPad for speech but she is a thrower so we have to constantly have our hands on it or it hits the floor.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to try this case - we have a different one that works well, but I have some issues with it and have been looking for other options. Thank you so much for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteWe'd love a nice lightweight case for JP's iPad 2. His low tone makes manipulation of heavy objects difficult. He loves red. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteThis would be great for our daughter, she needs lots of supervision while using the iPad so she doesn't toss it!
ReplyDeleteMy son would love this - he is a hemi kid, so having a one handed brief case to proudly carry around MY ipad would be wonderful.
ReplyDeleteSarah would love this case! The handles would benefit her ability to grasp it much more effectively!!
ReplyDeleteThis would be great for our daughter! She is just starting to use an iPad as an AAC device and it looks like this one would be very easy for her to carry around. Thanks for the opportunity!
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I have been shopping around for one for Emmett, and this one is great! I love how it's easy to grip on all four sides, and not only on just two like most I've come across. Fabulous!
ReplyDeleteOooh, I've been looking for a new case. This looks so cool! My son would love the green one :)
ReplyDeletethis would be ideal for my Teddy. he has such issues holding onto his pad. the additional protective screen cover would be neat too!
ReplyDeleteWow, this case is a great idea! My Daniel has problems holding his ipad with his "claw hands" and this would make it so much easier. Black would just fine.
ReplyDeleteI would love one of these for my daughter Clara. She is a thrower and a chewer. We have a leather case on it now that she is chewing off!
ReplyDeleteOh goodness! All this time I've been sighing and then telling myself not to waste time looking at reviews of apps and cases, because we didn't have an i-anything. A friend is planning to buy Ash a refurbished iPad3, and suddenly I need to be prepared to make the most of and protect it! This would be wonderful....and, without a doubt, blue!
ReplyDeleteOur son has dropped his iPad so many times the screen is cracked. We cannot afford a replacement and it still works fine. This would be a blessing. He loves the color blue.
ReplyDeleteOur Ipad has taken a beating by our 4yr old. The grip cover would be amazing for him to work on his left hand grip. Since he's into dinosaurs, he would love green!!
ReplyDeleteLooks like an awesome case and one that would be easy to hold. Love the picture of Max walking and holding his.
ReplyDeleteOur daughter's iPad gets dropped, goes flying, and generally takes a lot of abuse. We have tried 2 cases so far, but I am not confident in the current one. Your recommendation means a lot! How about a SURPRISE color?
ReplyDeleteI don't have a special needs child myself, but would love to donate one in honor of Gavin...so obviously I would pick blue :)
ReplyDelete- sheila
I've just been thinking I need to get serious about finding a case for Aidan's iPad so he can use it more independently. Hadn't heard of this one. Looks sturdy.

ReplyDeleteI would love to win a GripCase!!! It would help my daughter keep her fingers off the screen!
ReplyDeleteThis would be wonderful! My 9yo has severe autism and LOVES my iPad. He drops it occasionally and just cracked the screen a week ago. Boo. We have a warranty on it and it would be great to feel it was better protected in the future... :)
ReplyDeleteMy nephew who has CP (and his toddler sister!) would TOTALLY dig this! Thanks for the recommendation. It's nice to hear from someone who is actually using and loving things like this. :)
ReplyDeletelooks like exactly what we need for my boy.... where can these be purchased??
ReplyDeleteAt the site, Gripcase-USA.com
DeleteThis would be awesome - my girl tends to hold it by the screen which, of course, makes it wonky. Had an otter box for a while, which saved the ipad when it flew off the top of my car onto to the freeway shoulder, but my husband then bought a military style one which is not so awesome. Would love to try this (in blue!).
ReplyDeleteMy son has Prader-Willi syndrome and autism spectrum disorder. Our iPad is a bit heavy for him; he loves things with handles and this case would help him carry his around more easily.
ReplyDeleteLove this case - would love to donate one to our school!
ReplyDeleteWe don't need the case but I bought this case for our daughter last year after we moved states and her current school didn't provide an iAdapter case anymore. I love love love this case! It does a great job protecting the iPad and it has held up really well over the last year. It's so light weight and my daughter can easily hold it. Great for anyone!
ReplyDeleteThis looks like a GREAT product!! Hope I get to try it out

ReplyDeleteKim Anderson

ReplyDeleteWhat a generous gesture! This would be wonderful for my granddaughter Julia, who is almost 6 and has an unbalanced chromosome disorder. Her Ipad has taken a beating! Red is a great color for her CVI issues. Thanks for doing this!
ReplyDeleteSam's favorite color is blue, but I love the idea of the Purple, since that is the color for Epilepsy Awareness, and my son has a history of seizures. Either way, it would be great for him, since he has huge fine motor issues as well. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteGreen! We don't have a good case currently and have already had to replace our screen... UGH! I would love to win this and experience it's awesomeness!
ReplyDeleteBlue, green or purple :) I would love to have one of these to protect my personal iPad when I use it with my Early Intervention clients during home visits!

ReplyDeleteThis looks like a great case! Ian has low tone, and he could easily hold on to this case! Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI'd love a pink one for Danielle S. who is graduating form PG Chambers and turning 14 in June. Ruby and Julie visit her every week and she loves pink like Max loves Purple! This would be a gift from the girls, even though we just took her shopping at Justice and had a awesome time with a full fashion show! This would be great as they already had to replace one ipad :-(
ReplyDeleteLooks like a nice case. We just started using an iPad for AAC and are still looking for the right case!
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteI would love to win a case! Boog already has a case for his ipad, but we could raffle this one to raise money for his school. It's a great non-profit for special needs (adorable) kids and could use the money!

My twins Aidan (spastic quad CP) and Cian (Autistic) use the iPad daily for routines (Cian) and as a communication device... and we are IN NEED of a child friendly case!!
ReplyDeleteWe send an iPad with our oldest son every day, and we have helped his teachers learn how to put his assignments online so that he can be as independent as possible with homework assignments. We have gone through a couple of cases, and this one looks like it could last awhile! He loves the color green.
ReplyDeleteMakayla would love a red case! She is almost 4 & has spastic quad cp and has CVI. We use her iPad for visual activities and will soon start using it for communication. We are in need of a kid-friendly case that is lightweight!
ReplyDeleteMy son has an undiagnosed generic syndrome and is non verbal. We just started using a communication device in our iPad and have been sending it to school. We currently have a protective decide that is breaking so we need to replace it but its bulky and hard for hi to handle that we are looking for something that is easier for him. This looks like it could be it. His favorite color is blue.
ReplyDeleteI would love a case in purple, or green. :)
ReplyDeleteWe would love to throw our hat into the ring! Emerson could really use a cover like this. She is 7 years old, she had Quad CP, Seizure Disorder and CVID and is homebound for school and does everything via the computer/Skype. She works withs her therapist on her IPad and it would be great to have a case with handles instead of sand-bagging it on her table. She is the Pink Queen, but she could live with purple too :-), thanks. Andrea
