Top Special Needs Mom fantasies

* How awesome would it be if we had a physical/occupational/speech therapist who lived with us?

* A nap. I want a nap.

* Wouldn't it be amazing if he woke up tomorrow and just did that?

* That pediatric neurologist/pediatric orthopedist/pediatric ophthalmologist/developmental pediatrician sure is sexy.

* "Have you heard? We've done away with IEPs! Just let us know what your child needs and we'll take care of it, no problem."

* How cool: an app that dresses and feeds kids! And books all their doctor/therapy appointments!

* Well, if I won the lottery, we could have a therapist move in with us.

* "CNN Special Report: A new study finds that having a child with special needs makes you look 10 years younger"

* Yes, of course, my child would be happy to play with your child. Let me just see when we can squeeze in a playdate, he's so overbooked.

* And, yes, my child is thrilled to be Time Magazine's Person of the Year.

* George Clooney has decided to become a pediatric neurologist? Woo hoo!

* "Sorry, insurance company claims person, your claim to enter heaven is denied; purgatory is right this way."

  1. The lottery one is my enduring fantasy...the rest I have decided are just too unrealistic LOL

  2. Oh Ellen, stop teasing us! Actually, McDreamy from Grey's Anatomy is a neurologist and the actor is from Maine and is a donor to my son's hospital which means we're basically dating...he just doesn't quite know it. Thanks for the lighthearted start to my day! Heather

  3. Well, I could only fill 2/3 of that first fantasy....reminds of the story of Helen Keller - a kind of 'Anne Sullivan' concept. Not so fantastical in another time, another place. Instead of living in a child's home, I try to get into the mind of the parent. Not as fantasy-like, I know. But a 'therapeutic lifestyle' that reinforces what happens in discreet appointments with therapists is possible. Helps to believe in those fantastical goals: potty-trained in one year, functional use of a communication device in 6 months, double the number of different foods eaten in 3 months.

Wow. Idolizing physicians and punishing workers in the insurance industry.

Always on the edge, you are, Ellen. Barbara

  4. Love this! (Though, given the amount of time we've been spending with the kiddo's pediatric ophthalmologist lately, I need to substitute that specialty for the peds neurologist in the George Clooney fantasy. Or maybe I could have George as our peds ophthalmologist and Hugh Jackman as her therapist for her anxiety? Now I'm just extrapolating........ :-) )

  12. I want the power to assemble a meeting with every specialist and therapist in my daughter's life. Everybody in one room, exchanging ideas and answering our questions. We had that at the NICU and I got spoiled.

  17. Every time I find myself wishing - if only he had a tiny bit of control and could use a switch; if only he didn't have such high tone and could sit more easily; if only... - I eventually get to the heart of it - if only he didn't have CP and could walk and talk. Why mess around with the little stuff!
