Back when Max started sitting at our kitchen table for meals, we had trouble finding a chair that gave good support. The Height Right Chair from Special Tomato was a godsend. It's comfy, there's a belt and foot rest that stabilize him, and it looks like a nice piece of kitchen furniture rather than something adaptive (it's all wood). It grows with your child—the height and depth of both the seat and the foot rest are adjustable, and it fits sitters from 6 months up to 250 pounds. If Max doesn't kick his chocolate ice-cream habit, who knows what's going to happen to his waistline.
Here's Max in the chair and, yes, sometimes I let him eat from the ice-cream carton. And, why, yes, I am raising barnyard animals.
The Special Tomato people are giving away one Height Right Chair, complete with back and seat cushions. Estimated value: $370. You can pick your color of cushion: Lilac, Chocolate or Cherry. To enter, just leave a comment about your child's favorite food. If you know Max then you know he's all spaghetti, all the time.

Update: Our kids sure have some good taste in food! The winner of the chair is joyboytinkertoy; I hope your princess uses it in good health.
Our therapist has recommended strapping our little guy back in while we do meals. Because he is tube fed he doesn't care much about eating but we are trying to get him interested again, to be tube-free someday, but he just won't sit still but at almost 3 years old is a bit too big for a typical high chair-this would be great!

PIZZA! Sammie B could eat pizza or "pee-dah" as she calls it for every meal. I think "pee-dah" is to her as spagetti is to purple spagetti max!
ReplyDeleteMy son's favorite food is PB&J. He LOVES the stuff.
ReplyDeleteMy kids are unusual. I would say their favorite food is salad- likely because it was once an "earned food"- sorta like: "if you finish your ice cream, you can have salad" or "if you finish your pizza..." You get the picture. Gotta love having mini minis that the docs are trying to get us to grow! Anyway, would LOVE this chair for my "next in line"- and she should be home soon!

My oldest loves broccoli and I have no problems with the younger 2 eating veggies but if they had a favorite food as a group it would be mac & cheese. They would ask for it every night if I gave them an opinion on dinner lol :)

Well, since my daughter's on the ketogenic diet, I would say her favorite food is "any." If I had to pick one thing that she absolutely loves, it would have to be steak. It's pretty funny to see a 4 year old eating a steak that would normally feed a grown man (pre-diet, of course).
ReplyDeleteI "like" lovethatmax on facebook too.
ReplyDeleteI really appreciate and enjoy your blog! I could really use this high chair for my son. He's four and its getting really hard to get him in and out of our conventional high chair.
ReplyDeleteOh, I want this chair!!! I am still cramming Addi in the same old highchair we used for both kids. She is really too long for it, but I'm at a loss for the next step. Until now!
ReplyDeleteAddison just started eating oatmeal and loves it. Besides that? Pureed homemade mac n cheese! Mmmm.
I am not on Twitter but I posted about the giveaway on facebook.

LJ just became an eater...we successfully weaned him from being 100% dependent on his Gtube! So far he is a peanut butter maniac. This chair seems like it would be a whole lot easier to rid of peanut butter then our wheelchair! Thanks Ellen.

ReplyDeleteGreat give away!!
ReplyDeleteMy son's favorite food is "fish pasta". It is Spaghetti with Olive Oil, Garlic and Anchovies.
Fries! or "eye", as Nate would say. Fries was actually his first recognizable sigh and I was blown away when from the rear-view mirror I noticed Nate making a doing something with his hand and grinning ear to ear. Everything registered in an instant when I realized we were passing McDonald's (we'd driven though twice in his life)and the modified sign he was making was for fries. Needless to say, we frequent McDonald's quite often now for fries. How can I not reward such awesome communication? I will also post this give away on my blog: tannertimesoped.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteOh, yes. I also "like"-ed Max on Facebook. Don't Tweet, not actually sure I know what it is but if I did, I'd Tweet Max.
ReplyDeleteOh, wow, what a great giveaway! We'd love lilac :-)
ReplyDeleteEmma's current favorite food is PB&J because she just started eating it. It's not pureed at all which is a big deal for her and us!
My son's favorite food is salad. He can't taste so he loves texture.
ReplyDeleteMaddy's favorite healthy food is poached egg whites. But her favorite-est food is chocolate ice cream.
ReplyDeleteamyj.carroll@gmail.com
I would love to win that for my lil princess! joycaffrey@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteProbably ice cream, or cake. She has a sweet tooth!
ReplyDeleteBryanna's favorite food is...ROOT BEER! Is root beer a food? She has a feeding tube but has to be at the table with us for every meal and has to have some of whatever we are eating on her plate. She feeds it to the dog! Yes, Bryanna would say root beer.
ReplyDeleteMy son is also tube fed but he is in feeding therapy and he loved anything sweet... Chocolate pudding, Gogurt, Cool whip... Well you get the picture! Abeandkim@aol.com
ReplyDeleteMy kids all seem to love nothing but yogurt and ice cream. Everything else, they can do without.
ReplyDeleteMy twins have come a long way with feeding even though the older one still refuses solid. The older twin has a sweet tooth and loves his strawberry milk. The younger one is a noodle fiend....spaghetti, cheesy mac, stir fried, udon, bow tie, ...you name the noodle, and he'll be there waiting. ;)
ReplyDeleteSonya L (sonya5258@yahoo.com) Forgot to mention...ritz crackers are a favorite too...one twin loves to crush them (but not eat) and the other would enjoy crushed ritz on noodles. scary, huh.

My daughter's new favourite food is.... homemade vegetable soup! Apparently carrots go from "the most disgusting food in the world" to "Yay! Carrots!" when simmered for an hour in tomato broth! My little man likes rice cereal and pears. That chair looks amazing... I think I want 2! (or 3!)
ReplyDeletejanelouisemcrae@yahoo.ca
I just wanted to add that we have a very similar chair for our typical guy, and it's available at a lower price point. I can't tell if it would meet everyone's needs just the same as the Height Right, but thought I'd share it in case it does.

My Alan loves chocolate milk, and it getting into ice cream, of any flavor!
ReplyDeleteHi ,I would say my son Reece's favorite food is CAKE any type of cake . Even when he doesn't want to eat his food if you say "cake" he will open wide. Even if your not actually feeding him cake then he makes a face like what did you just put in my mouth.I'm sure I won't be able to use this trick for very long . Love the chair .I think it would be awesome for my 3yr old who is outgrowing his hichair . Glad I saw this on FB.I was struggling to find the next chair for Reece.
ReplyDeleteThis chair looks fabulous! What a great contest! Julia (3) doesn't chew yet - her favorite food is daddy's homemade mashed potatoes, lots of cream, lots of butter - gotta get those calories in there!
ReplyDeleteMy little 3.5 year old grandson Kaiden would LOVE this chair! His favorite food is chocolate. Most of his diet is formula as he still has a cleft palate, but he LOVES sitting at the table with everyone and tasting stuff like a big boy. Thanks! (olshuff@gmail.com)

ReplyDeleteThat is an amazing chair. It would be really good for therapy as well as eating. What is Emma's favorite food? Well, Emma does not have a favorite food but she has a miracle food. Emma has been through a brain surgery, six medications and now the high fat, low carb Ketogenic Diet to control the seizures that relentlessly hammered her brain and caused her to lose so many abilities. Now after almost a year on the diet, she has more focus, she is beginning to talk, she sings over 100 songs, she rides a tricycle and she is very happy. Her miracle foods are heavy cream, butter, canola oil, eggs.

My little guy Kaiden was born with a very rare genetics disorder called 4q deletion syndrome. He is 3 and a half years old and still takes a bottle 4 times a day with a special nipple for children with a cleft palate. Kaiden will be going in for his second surgery on June 7th for the palate. And with this surgery, we have high hopes that Kaiden will be able to eat more food by mouth. It would be incredible to have a chair like this to feed him at the table. We use a booster at dinner time and are really trying to get him interested in table food. I would have to say his most favorite thing to eat is chocolate chips. He will never turn one down. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteRenzo aspirates, so everything is pureed, but he LOVEs ICE CREAM! Thx for the opportunity to enter!
