This is the way dinner goes at our house during weekdays:

Since I don't get home till 7 from work, the babysitter feeds the kids. I hate not having family dinner but at this stage in life, eating at 7 is late for Max and Sabrina (they are ready to crash by 8). Once they're out, I am typically too zonked to cook/not in the mood/hopeless about cooking. Sometimes Dave will get takeout, or we'll microwave frozen dinners or something similarly lame.

Getting delivered meals is bliss. I've seen the Schwan's trucks in our 'hood, and have always wondered what the food is like. Recently, I got to try their baked ziti, 5-cheese garlic bread, broccoli florets and chocolate ice-cream.


Coming home to find dinner waiting for you on the front porch is a happy sight. We had ourselves a mid-week feast! The 24-ounce ziti says it serves 2, but it's actually plenty for two hungry kids, one adult, and one spouse on an anti-carb plan (Dave, not me). The ziti tasted delicious and homemade. The garlic bread was good and plentiful (there were 6 gigantic pieces), and the broccoli was the most fresh-tasting frozen broccoli I've ever tried; it had olive oil and a bit of Parmesan. Max rated the chocolate ice-cream excellent, and he is a chocolate ice-cream connoisseur.

    WOW--that food looks like the stuff my mom makes--all of it delicious!!! And yep, that's my favorite stuff for dinner--Mama's home cookin'!!!

    Since I have no need of this service because my mom would be personally and gravely insulted--really--if I preferred "delivered" food to hers (though it sounds WONDERFUL, and I'll keep it in mind if I ever do need it in the future), should I win the card, give it to a domestic violence shelter near your house, or a food bank, or something like that.

    Oh my...It all looks so good. I should not look at this site just before lunch. I guess I would choose the beef stir fry with Asian noodle kit for me. My youngest would love the pizzeria pepperoni pizza. My oldest the 4 cheese ravioli with Alfredo sauce. My husband would love the sushi rolls or anything on the seafood side(I don't like to eat or cook seafood). Don't even get me started on the goodies.

    We love to have greek salad (home-made) and some kind of pasta dish. Sometimes, my hubby will make eggplant parmesan using frozen breaded eggplant cutlets, which makes life a lot easier because all he has to do is add the sauce and cheese.

    How funny. We JUST had veggie lasagna on Monday for dinner. I use those pre-shredded broccoli slaw packs and zucchini as my veggies, a little ricotta, maybe cottage cheese, mozzarella, no-cook noodles, and sauce! So easy and yum.

    Anyway, this isn't a recipe blog. My fave thing to eat for dinner is Mexican. Tostadas or enchiladas are my absolute fave with guac!

    My favorite meal is probably spinach salad (with bacon, of course) and a nice glass of red wine. If I had to pick a more "home-cooked"-y type of meal, it would be homemade mac n' cheese (again, with a nice glass of red wine). Fruit and/or pie for dessert.

    Mmm.

    I used to love to cook--loved to shop for food, too (I loved grocery stores). But now, with the hussle-bussle of kids/work/school/therapies/etc, it's such a CHORE. thank god my kids eat veggies straight out of the can!!

    I'm hoping one day my energy returns and I can cook more at home for my family...*sigh* keep dreaming, no? :)
