What sort of bliss do you have planned for summer?

I'm back from my little getaway. I think I could get used to being a runaway mom.

My friend Maryellen's beach house is fab. Which is no surprise, since Maryellen is one of the more fab people in this world; if you have a chance, check out her cool new lifestyle blog, Chictionary.

The two of us had a wonderful couple of days talking, hanging at the beach, ogling various cute dogs and one precocious cat who trotted onto an elevator at a hotel, eating good food, drinking rosé (Maryellen is most likely laughing as she reads this 'cause I'm such a lightweight drinker). On Saturday Maryellen left, the kids and Dave showed up and I had weekend, part 2.

Happily for Max, Maryellen's lilacs were in bloom.

Max, of course, found a purple mailbox.

We spent an afternoon at the beach, and none of us minded the clouds. Max and Sabrina did the usual kids-at-the-beach thing—ran around, dug in the sand, looked for shells, dumped sand all over us, cried when we left. Sabrina, in one of her sweeter moments, wrote "Purple Max" in the sand.

I feel totally rejuvenated. I didn't realize how much I needed a break until I got one, and I am sure you guys know what I mean.

Now I'm thinking ahead to summer. We have a week's beach vacation planned for June. I'd also like to to find some new bike trails and do more hiking. Oh, and ice-cream. I'm thinking lots and lots of ice-cream. Max topped his own record this weekend. Dave has a friend who owns a Dunkin' Donuts/Baskin Robbins, and en route to meeting me at the beach they stopped by his store. Max not only got to help scoop his own ice-cream, he downed four cups of it. Dave did not capture the moment on film, so I am guessing Max will not be eligible for any sort of kid world record.

What sort of summer plans are you dreaming about?

  1. It looks like you all had fun! Glad to hear you had a great weekend.
As for the summer, Monkey Boy is having surgery - selective dorsal rhizotomy, to be exact. As hectic as the pre and post - op care is going to be, I am very happy to have it as our main plan for the summer.

  2. I am SO hoping that our beach plans for June will still be on. This oil spill has me nervous. Other than that? Every day's a vacation around here:)

  3. Well, we were headed to Disney, but we decided to wait til the Fall. Emma's allergies and seizures are up and it is hard to tell if she would feel up to that trip. She is Tiana and Tink crazy right now, so we desperately want her to enjoy it when we get there.

We are talking about heading to a beach in NC in the next couple of weeks. Hopefully, Emz will feel up for that.Hoping to get some rejuvenation from the beach thing, so I get so some more ABR hours in.

I also want to head out to some outlet shopping this summer. Love good deals. I definitely want to get Emma to the zoo, the aqaurium, and a water park. A picnic sounds pretty fab too. I'd love to put in a pool cause that would be way fun. I would love to get into biking and get a cool mountain bike.

  4. Four cups of ice cream sounds amazing! A medal for Max should be made...

This summer I'm moving from Ohio to San Francisco now that I'll be a college graduate! There are big plans in my future. (That just sounded like a fortune cookie.)

  5. I'm taking Marcus, Gabriel, and Tevis back to Colorado in June. We had a great time last year at the Memorial Day Family Camp at the National Sports Center for the Disabled in Winter Park. This year, we're winging it on our own...staying at a great little hostel and we're going to explore Rocky Mountain National Park a couple of days. Then on the last day, the "boys" are going white water rafting with the NSCD. I LOVE Colorado and it will be so good to get out of the Texas heat!

  6. We live down the road from the beach. I really can't stand the beach, but I'm sure we'll be spending some quality time there... that reminds me... gotta get my sticker soon.

Also taking a small road trip up north for a few days...

  7. Any summer plans would work for me (meaning no PT even when I'm not working). I'll just have to do day trips or something short.

The kids are really growing up. Both Sabrina and Max are looking more like young lady and young man.
As for summer plans, I am with Jo. Big honking hernia surgery June 8th- right now I look pregnant on one side. 10 days in the hospital and weeks of recovery.
And so I started my garden early. I like to grow the things that are so expensive in stores - ginger, snow peas, okra, honey dew melon, black eyed peas,(yes Mum is from the South)heirloom tomatoes, fancy mesclun salad greens ( which my mother calls mescaline - the old recreational drug-which cracks me up.)

  9. We'll do a week at the lake not real far from the house--we take a four man tent (for us) and a pop-up (for the folks), and a portable crapper! My dad really manages to make the whole experience very livable, so long as we have sunshine. Great food, great fun, lots of swimming, boating, fishing, etc....

  10. We are going to Cedar Point, Washington DC and Disney World...can't wait!! On top of ice cream and no schedule!

  11. Three of my kids are going to sleepaway camp! The older two, for a month, and E. for two weeks! Yes, a camp for special needs kids where he gets a 1:1 and therapists and they teach swimming and he's happy and not home... Good stuff.

Love the beach- looks like you had an amazing time. I think the beach would fit fabulously into a Life is Therapy post (http://allaccesspasstojack.blogspot.com/2010/03/spring-break.html), what with the water, sand, building sandcastles, etc.

  12. I would love to be able to visit a place like that! I'm glad you all had a great weekend.
We are headed to Disneyland for the 8th year in a row. I'm ready for a beach house and relaxation not another Disney trip! At least we are able to get away and have some family time without work or school or anything else getting in the way. I am very thankful for that!
