Kid goodies giveaway: a DVD and CD that rock
Here's Max using cymbals in both hands for the very first time. His inspiration: The Trying Funny Stuff DVD by The Jimmies. That's them playing in the background (squealing sound effects provided by me). The Jimmies are geared toward kids but let me just say, their music is totally enjoyable for grownups—compelling, creative and a whole lot of fun. And their videos are a riot.
Ashley Albert, the lead singer, has kindly offered to give away one DVD and two CDs. So leave a comment below about what kind of stuff music moves your kids to do, and I'll randomly pick three winners by next Thursday, 3/18, and announce them the following day.
Max's fave Jimmies video is "Spanimals," I'm partial to "Bedhead" (and Ashley, doll, your bedhead is nothing compared to my bedhead in the morning). You can see both videos here.

I love using Music to get my daughte to clean up, but now I've started taking our Shrek 2 disk to Jackson's PT apt's and he laugh's while "walking" on the treadmill - something he used to scream through!! Who would have thought Antonio Banderas and Eddie Murphy singing Living La Vida Loca could be so motivating. :)
ReplyDeleteDANCE!! :)
ReplyDeleteMusic has not only got Zach moving, but has helped in calming him also. It makes a great distractor during difficult times also. One of my favorite memories is when Bob and I thought the kids were fighting while watching a music dvd...to walk in to find out they were both "roaring" at the top of their lungs to a dinosaur song!
ReplyDeleteOh too cute, Max! Faith loves anything with a good beat! I actually saw her rockin' to a Michael Jackson song on tv a few weeks ago! I was cracking up! She knows where the radio is and sometimes she will hop over to it and put her little hand on it for me to turn it on! It is so cute!
ReplyDeleteLuke loves music. When he jumps on his mini-tramp he likes to have music on. He's not an much of a video watcher (except in the car), but when music comes on he will turn his head to watch (other wise he listens, I hope). Music is also calming. I have the hope that it will also help him talk.
ReplyDeleteOia loves music and always has...her long time favorite is the Laurie Berner Band and fav song is their one titled Five Days Old. She has always tried nodding her head but now that she can stand she bobs and claps too. Doing all those movements at the same time is a big deal! It is sooo stinkin' cute!
ReplyDeleteMy kids love the Beatles and Irish punk bands (DKM and Flogging Molly). Words cannot express how happy this makes me, I'm not a big fan of "The Wiggles". They love all music that makes them want to dance!
ReplyDeleteAll the Shrek movie soundtracks have been a hit in our home, since they came out.
ReplyDeleteWe clean to them, walk to them, it's going to be such a trip down memory lane when they're gone, and I listen to these..
Don't mind me for the giveaway (no kids here!)
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to say that Max is ADORABLE!
It may sound ridiculous, but Roa was a Rocker in the womb! Led Zeppelin, ACDC,..any guitar or heavy beat would get him kicking.
ReplyDeleteWhen Roa had severe reflux as a infant, it took an embarassingly hair-bandy song, "Running Wild" by Airbourne to rock him to sleep.
Currently, Roa does his stretching and massage to Carole Peterson's Sticky Bubble Gum and a variety of Dr. Jean songs from my teaching years.
Oh, and who can not love the bluesy song "FIRETRUCK"!!
Go Max! Music like that works for my Emma too! She likes catchy tunes.
ReplyDeleteMy girls will dance to just about anything! They have a few cds with kids classics!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway!
My son has loved Brooks and Dunn's song, I believe since he was born...it never fails to make him smile and calm him down. It's priceless and fitting, as I love the song as well and I Believe!

Maisy wouldn't raise her arms above her head until we came up with a song to get her to do it. Then we came up with a song to get her to bear weight on her legs, to get her comfortable with a shirt going over her head, and well, just about everything else. Now she loves to dance to anything, but lately she's partial to the Glee soundtrack.
ReplyDeleteWe love to dance at our house! We try to dance everyday! Love it!
ReplyDeleteWe always dance to music. my daughter doesn't talk but she loves to sing and has learned several songs. She gets through groceries stores and bed time with her MP3 player.
ReplyDeletehe will entertain himself while i cook...which is big...if i play music in the kitchen he will dance and twirl while i cook
