Heads up: Massive Tylenol, Motrin, Benadryl, St. Joseph Aspirin and Rolaids recall
The Tylenol recall of several months ago was expanded today, and includes children's medications and a bunch of other products. There have been reports that a "moldy" smell has caused at least 70 customers nausea, stomach pain, vomiting and diarrhea. Fun times.
You can get the full scoop on all of the products, and the problematic lot numbers, at this site. Here's the hotline: 1-888-222-6036 (Mon-Fri 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. EST, and Sat-Sun 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST).
I checked our cabinets, we're safe. We only give the kids liquid aspirin (Max can't swallow pills), and all of the problematic kid meds are in tablet form.
I can still remember the big Tylenol scare of the '80s, when people died after taking cyanide-laced pills. One day, around that time, I was in this whiney teacher's class and he was in a particularly bad mood. He looked at us and said, "You guys give me a headache."
"Take Tylenol!" I shouted.
I got sent to the principal's office, but it was totally worth it.
OK, stay healthy, everyone.

Thanks for the head's up. We use aspirin for our daughter and I will definitely be checking our supply. I was wondering if you really meant "liquid aspirin" when you typed that or if it was liquid Tylenol. We have to cut our aspirin and then grind it up and then dilute it in water. If there was such a thing as liquid aspirin, I would love to find out where you get it! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteMy kind of humor and I remember that scare vividly.....had no idea about the recalls. Thanks for the info.Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteBad girl, Ellen! LOL!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the recall update. I had no idea.
ReplyDeleteI love that sass. One time, a teacher was harassing me at lunch because all I ever ate was celery and carrots. I looked at him and "WTF" popped right out of my mouth. I seriously didn't mean to do it, but man, it was funny. He and I were both so surprised that we laughed, and thankfully I didn't get sent to the principal's office - back then, you could probably get suspended for talking like that!
Oh my gosh! Thanks for the heads up! It's so scary to think we give our kids these medications when they aren't always as 'safe' as we think......

I am glad u posted this. we had 4 BAD lot #'s between some Children's tylenol, extra strength and tylenol PM! I just sent the company an email--no getting through on their hotline, too busy.
ReplyDeleteI am a terrible person with a damn near empty "medicine chest." I am not prepared for emergencies at all--good thing there's an all night store close by.
ReplyDeleteThere's a half a bottle of drugstore aspirin, half a bottle of Walmart-brand Pepto, and some skunky looking drugstore Robitussin in there, with some band-aids and well, not much else of any real use. This is a good excuse to clean that thing out, I guess!
My folks had to clear out a few things, though...and lots of our customers use Rolaids (no, not because of OUR food) so I'll be warning them to switch to something else, say, Tums, until this is sorted out!
Ellen, love your student sense of humor....I was a smart mouth in school, myself, so I can appreciate that!
This is so scary. I am nine months pregnant and the only pain reliever I can take is acetaminophen a.k.a. Tylenol. Thank goodness I am such a cheapie and buy only the generic stuff! It actually saved me a lot of worrying. I do wonder how many poor immune compromised pregnant women took the tainted medicine. They are all in my prayers :(
ReplyDeleteHa! :) I dressed as an aspirin that year for Halloween. Or maybe it was a tylenol. I forget. Anyway, E.T. beat me in the contest.
ReplyDeleteWhatever with her store-bought costume.
