Here's mine. It's just so happy-making—it takes me right back to childhood. I put it on the other day, and tried to get the kids to bop their heads from side to side and dance like the girl in the purple dress (of course, Max fell in love with her). But the kids weren't feeling it. So I did the dance all by myself. And thankfully, Dave did not catch that on videotape.
So, share, what's your all-time favorite holiday song?
As I was sitting watching the video clip and Charlie Brown and the kids bopping, I couldn't help thinking that I couldn't remember any kids in any of the cartoons of that day that had disabilities. They just didn't exist :(
If we don't count Adam Sandler's three versions of his Chanukah Song, which is not exactly a holiday song, then this is the one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vE8OuThSfU4
It's Yerachmiel with Optimystical Directed singing Days of Light. My 6-year-old discovered it during our recent trip to the Pető Institute in Budapest.
"O Holy Night"--I could listen to that song all year-long. :) Another favorite is "This Christmas" by Donny Hathaway. Never fails to get me in the Christmas spirit!
I like the old traditional favorites by artists that were active in the sixties and seventies because of the memories they evoke. My parents had records that were packed away with the decorations, that only came out once a year--scratches, pops, hisses and all...and I can't hear Bing Crosby singing "Tidings of comfort and joy" without wanting to sing "comfort and joy, comfort and joy, comfort and joy" because that's where the scratch on the record was (a quick bump or a thump on the floor would solve the problem!). They didn't adapt to those 'shiny little CD records' until the mid nineties! We still have the records, but haven't played them in eons.
That song from Charlie Brown always makes me smile! My favorite Christmas song of all time is O Holy Night. We had a friend that sang it beautifully but he passed away a few years ago. That song always makes me think of him.
The chipmunk song is at the top of my list ("I still want a hula hoop"). I just heard it yesterday on the radio so now my holiday season is complete.
My other favorite is the muppets version of the 12 days of christmas, but unfortunately, I hardly ever hear it on the radio. I will go and look for it on youtube.
O Holy Night is my number one...Christmas Time is Here is my favorite Charlie Brown song!
ReplyDeleteI loved that song too!

I love all Christmas carols too.
I am a pretty big fan of that crazy dance too. My girls just saw it a few days ago on TV and they jumped right up and started dancing along!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is Harry Connick Jr's version of "Sleigh Ride" from his album When My Heart Finds Christmas. He's quite the modern-day crooner.

ReplyDeleteThe Bells Of Fraggle Rock is a favorite too (guess when I was born based on that obscure referance)

ReplyDeleteJack loved the video. We found a longer one with most of the movie's songs. I think. He was so funny!!! He got so excited. Thanks a bunch!
