A back-to-school giveaway...for moms! Chic necklace, anyone?
The kids got new clothes and school supplies; you deserve something new, too, and I'm not talking about a pencil case. I am a huge fan of the jewelry from Lisa Leonard Designs. It's quirky, pretty and fun, all at the same time. I own one of her necklaces, and I get compliments whenever I wear it.
The lovely Lisa has generously offered to give two of you a Kisses & Hugs necklace, each worth $56. To enter, just leave a comment about what you hope to achieve this school year! Me, I'm on a continued quest for more patience.
I'll randomly pick two winners by Sunday at midnight.
UPDATE: It's best if you could leave a comment using a registered Blogger.com I.D. If you leave a comment as "Anonymous," you must leave your name and e-mail address in order to be eligible.
My hope for this school year is no more hospital admissions!
ReplyDeleteI hope to become more organized so I can be a better mom! And to turn off this damn computer!
ReplyDeletePick me!
I really hope I can get the house organized and keep it that way.
ReplyDeleteWoot woot! Close the contest now so I can actually maybe win! LOL
ReplyDeleteMy mantra this year is patience and confidence. Last year kicked my ass as a teacher, so I figured this all out on vacation right before school started. It helps, and so far so good!
Those necklaces are too cute! My goal this year is to not let my stomach turn to ice every time I get a call for a parent - teacher conference.
ReplyDeleteMy hope is simple: to get through this pregnancy and the arrival of baby number 3 ;-). I am not even trying to think beyond that!
ReplyDeleteWith our school schedule, we are just a week away from 1st quarter parent-teacher conferences. The goal for 1st quarter was to make sure we all got enough sleep and had things like backpacks ready the night before. We weren't perfect, but a whole lot better. For the 2nd quarter we need to do a better job of keeping the house picked up and clean and do all we can to avoid H1N1.
ReplyDeleteMy goals for the year - continue to try to step outside of my safety box. Do good for others. Be an example of kindness and compassion. Get inside my 15-year old's head. Figure out how to mellow out some of those republicans!
ReplyDeleteMy goal for this school year would be: to try to get my house organized so that everytime we need something I don't have to spend so much time searching for it......and to spend more time with Corey 'listening' to how his day at school was and not be so caught up on his grades.....but to appreciate 4th grade a little more!
ReplyDeleteAnd Thank You for the opportunity to enter the drawing!
I hope to be able to drop my daughter off at school and have her not cry so hard she throws up. I hope we don't get swine flu. I hope my son will sit in his seat for snack time, and any other time the teacher tells him too. I hope we don't have pt/ot/speech every time the class wants to get together for a play date. I hope my hubby and I get to have our lunch dates again.
ReplyDeleteOMG...I totally love Lisa Leonard's jewelry - and her blog! But, Gavin's not in school. What to do what to do. Well, my hope for this *preparing for him to go to school* year is that I accept that he will be 3 next year...and to start looking for the school that accepts Superheroes. I want him to fit in and all...
ReplyDeleteI would like to get more involved in the schools this year.
ReplyDeleteFabulous contest! Thanks for doing this!
ReplyDeleteMy twins just started preschool, and I just began my 14th year as an autistic support teacher, so this is a terrific question to ask myself right now.
As a teacher, I always hope to push my kids further than anyone expects them to be able to go. The past couple of years I have been super focused on my boys' special needs at home, so I hope and I refocus on my students and really excel again at work.
As a mommy of brand new preschoolers, both of whom have special needs, I am challenging myself to believe that they will be successful outside of the safety of our home. Due to the trauma of their premature birth and their subsequent special needs, I have somehow become so fearful that no one will ever be able to provide them with everything they need to be successful. They have come so far already with all of their therapy, and I have to trust that they are ready to enter the big wide world and show everyone how amazing they are!
AH I've wanted one of these forever. I keep going to her site and looking at all the cool stuff, but then something else comes up that I need to spend the money on!!!
ReplyDeleteI wanna win! Pick me, pick me!!
I hope that my twin daughters have a wonderful start in school and make some friends along the way. My personal goal is to show Claudia how to be a good advocate for herself by being one myself.
ReplyDeleteThose are beautiful necklaces, but please don't pick me because I just don't ever wear anything around my neck--and I know there are folks here who really are COVETING them!
ReplyDeleteWhat I hope for in this school year are no (or few) "transitional" meltdowns (when the schedule changes, we have at least one blow-up, sometimes more), a healthy and safe school year, and that the school administration gets off my "aaaahs" about their damn church, which I have absolutely no interest in joining. I do my saving at the savings bank!
My kids (both, this year, as the youngest is now old enough for a half day pre-K program) go to a Christian school, and no offense to Christians, but I just don't go for that "organized religion" stuff and I don't feel a need to give some fat guy in a shiny suit or some man in a dress a tenth of my meager salary on top of paying the fees for the kids (which I could not do alone without the help of their grandparents) in order to get some magic deity in the sky to "like" me or listen to me--I don't need or want a phone operator or a translator, thanks anyway.
The reason they're at this school is because I am, to be blunt, worried about bullying in our public school district (which is heavy on kids and short on teachers), the class size at the private school is really small, they're accomodating to my kids, and at least three of the teachers have special needs kids and are wired into the issues associated with that (they get a lot of "customers" because they do a good job on that score). If it weren't for the damn religion (again, no offense to those who like that stuff), it would be a great school. It's close enough to WALK to, too, which is good in bad weather or when the car is acting up.
There are just one or two people in the administration who are always trying to save my soul, and I tell them--over and over again-- politely to back off, yet every few months they come back at me again, like they think they'll wear me down or something. I tell them they're having the opposite effect but they are totally tone deaf. We'll see how it goes this year.
We have "Welcome Back" Day on Friday (which is also when they get the parents to fill in their volunteer forms) and then start back in earnest next week. Here's hoping for the best.
I hope to have a great LAST school year as my sons are seniors. I hope I am able to thank the MANY wonderful people that made a difference in my sons lives, many who are now my friends. I hope to forgive and forget the maybe three or four that did something totally wrong!! Last I hope to be rememebered as a parent that loved her sons, worked hard to help them be their best and was a team member with the professionals in our school system!
ReplyDeleteThis school year, I hope to master getting Kendall's wheelchair in and out of the car and up the steps to pick my son up from school everyday...without dropping any f-bombs.
ReplyDeleteIt's the start of the whole process for us, but my son will be homebound taught...so I hope for it to all go smoothly!
ReplyDeleteMy hope for the school year is that we find a wonderful preschool for my boys.
ReplyDeleteMy goals for this year:
ReplyDeleteTo make some friends outside of the realm of "special needs" (my closest friends right now are Emmett's pediatrician, his occupational therapist and his speech therapist).
I'm also going to really work on getting myself healthy (ie, lose some weight).
My hopes for the school year (our very 1st one!) are pretty simple.
ReplyDeleteI hope to make it though the IRPC meetings, parent-teacher interviews, etc. without tears.
I hope to be able to one day look at all of the other JK's and not feel a bit sad.
For Kasia I hope she: dances every time the teacher plays music, even if it's during Oh Canada, like she did on the first day; actually eats the snack I send for her; stops coming home with 3 pounds of sand in each shoe; and gets some sort of revenge on the kid in her class that keeps calling her a "baby"!
I hope to avoid the swine flu in my house.....
ReplyDeleteAnji
I've been seriously longing for at least one of her necklaces. Winning this would be a major spirit-lifter for me in this difficult back-to-school transition. Thanks for the opportunit & love.
ReplyDeleteI hope to accomplish a sence of security with the system....Ughh
ReplyDeleteMy hope(s) for this school year is to step out of my comfort zone, find my own likes/dislikes again and ok, just find myself again. I hope for more patience and understanding that its the climb thats important.
ReplyDeleteI love Lisa's jewellery and have ordered some in the past.
ReplyDeleteMy hopes for this school year is to clean and organize my house. I have great plans for the closets, pantry, deep freezer and hall closet.
I would also hope to plan our wedding (yes we continue to live in sin) and if we get married I would hope to take a big leap and get pregnant again.
I hope for a great school year for all four of my boys!
ReplyDeleteFletcher turns 3 in December, so will be transitioning from EI to the school system, so I guess this will be his very first school year. I am still in denial, actually, but if I have to think about it my goal is increased trust in others, by both Fletcher and me!
ReplyDeleteIt's our first school year this year and I'm hoping to get the kid there on time (I am notoriously awful at arriving anywhere on time, I'm embarrassed to say) and to avoid the flu entirely! And I'm really really hoping that someday soon when I ask my little guy what he did in school, he can describe it for me!
ReplyDeleteI hope to be a better advocate for my daughter! There is a fine line between getting her what she is entitled to and not wanting to become "that" mom....you know the crazy, demanding one. Olivia is 4 and has some speech issues due to her trach. She's never really received consistent therapy and this will be her year!
ReplyDeleteI wanted to thank you for introducing me to the TALKTOOLS website. Now she is blowing bubbles! It is something she has never been able to do (we thought because of her trach, but no it must be muscle-related). She was so excited and I was in tears! It was a good moment.
Guess it's time to be crazy and demanding...
Beautiful necklaces! Kerri
