Today, a Dayton, Ohio woman was pulled over and given two citations for breastfeeding her daughter as she drove her other kids to school. Her response to the news: "If my child's hungry, I'm going to feed it." She noted that when she's driven long distances, she has pulled over to nurse.
Um, hello? It doesn't matter if you're just driving around the corner—NOT a good idea. The officers said her little girl's head was resting on the steering wheel. If this mother had gotten into an accident, that child could have been seriously injured. Or worse.
I'm all for breastfeeding, I did it myself. But this just makes my blood boil.
A public service announcement: Don't let your baby drink as you drive.

WOW.
ReplyDeleteMom's these days.....
Oh my goodness, that really makes my blood boil! It kind of defeats the purpose of breast feeding when you seriously endanger a child's life like that. I'm also a bit concerned by the fact that she doesn't realize how wrong her actions were.
ReplyDeleteOh, no, no, no... I have one MUCH better then this... A lady who was baby-sitting 2 children (not hers) for a lady that dumped them, and had not been back for months, decide she wanted a $1500 Cockatoo... SO... She arranged to 'trade' the 2 kids, in exchange for the bird! Yea!... I'll trade kids that don't even belong to be for a BIRD! - Good mother!

I saw a mother in my neighborhood entertaining her toddler by having him drive with her in the drivers seat on her lap. I saw her do it two times. I made a promise to my self that if I saw it again I was calling the police.
ReplyDeleteI just felt so terrible for the child that he was put in such an unsafe situation!
Wow, the audacity of some people... I mean, how could one person be so ignorant? Where are people's brains these days? Seriously, I wanna know.
ReplyDeleteYou know all about me and breastfeeding, but this is something I would NEVER do. I have however been known to hang over a car seat a time or two when someone else was driving! :)
ReplyDeleteTake a good look around you...there are MANY other things going on in cars where kids are not in car seats. I myself have wanted to call the police many many times. Next time I will.
Jonathan (who is 6 1/2) is still in a 5-point harness, and will be for quite some time. I am a car seat freak too...now that I think about it, I really think I am just a freak!
Golly gee. The things people do without considering the possible consequences... NO child is that desperately in need of a feed that their life should be put in danger!
ReplyDeleteI'm speechless...
ReplyDeleteit is so horrible, i laughed while reading "don't drink while driving".
ReplyDeleteellen, at least you can put a funny spin on such a dangerous, unlawful moment of insanity.
have a great weekend.
That's Crazy!
ReplyDeleteThings that mothers do.....huh.
It's hard to image how that is even possible.
ReplyDeleteThat really makes me mad.....People like that should not even HAVE children and to think about all the people in this would that would make GREAT parents and can't......it is really sad!
ReplyDeleteI was once travelling on the back seat with my son who was a couple of months old. We were on a highway strip where it wasn't easy to stop, when he started screaming like hell. Nothing would calm him down, nothing! So, I (horror) unbuckled _my own_ safety belt, leaned over to my son who was safely strapped to his baby car seat, and fed him. Phew! It felt like the stupidest thing I've ever done, not wearing a seat belt in the back seat.
ReplyDeleteSo yeah, you can say I'm pretty freaked out about the mom who breastfed her baby while SHE was driving and the BABY wasn't strapped in.
Holy Crap! What was she thinking?!?! I've nursed in pretty crazy places and ways (or so I thought!), but never ever would I have driven and nursed my babies. I have pumped driving- probably wasn't all that safe either- but I maintained my every 3 hour pumping while Parker was in the NICU.
ReplyDeleteI am all for breastfeeding but was not a public nurser. I would find a quiet place to nurse usually a change room in a store. We are having a bit of a human rights here as a mother was asked to leave the warming pool at our local pool because she was nursing her son (1yr.) in the pool YUCK. Her response was how should I deprive my child of nourishment when he is hungry, I think a 1 year can wait a couple of minutes before eating, it is the same as bottle it is not allowed in a public pool. The worst the risk for bacteria in a warming pool is huge and to nurse a baby in there is gross.
ReplyDeleteI do believe woman should be able to nurse and be comfortable in public but when you are putting your child at risk it is plain stupidity. Driving and nursing is plain endangerment.
All I can say is OMG...and she thinks she's being SMART!
