Friday Fun: It's primal scream time
So, here's what today is all about: Shout about something that's bugging you. Just get it out there. No holding back. No censoring yourself. No need to seek reimbursement from the insurance company, this therapy session's free. Here come mine:
I JUST GOT MY 401K STATEMENT AND IT LOST A HUGE CHUNK OF CHANGE IN THE FALL, AS DID THE KIDS' COLLEGE SAVINGS FUND. I KNOW THESE ACCOUNTS WILL EVENTUALLY REBOUND BUT, STILL, CRAP! CRAP! AND...CRAP!
I HAVE A MAJOR COLLEGE REUNION IN JUNE. I'M SEEING OLD FRIENDS' PHOTOS ON THE FACEBOOK REUNION GROUP WE FORMED. THEY LOOK AS SLIM AS THEY DID IN COLLEGE. I DO NOT. ARGH!
I AM SO OVER SCHOOLS THAT SCHEDULE YOUR PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCE SMACK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DAY, WITHOUT CONSULTING YOU. HEL-LO, SOME OF US HAVE DAY JOBS.
Whew. I feel better now.
Do you have an hour or so to spare???
ReplyDeleteI am pretty much at peace right now actually! After signing our lives away last night on this new house we feel pretty stress free! For now anyway! We go to the bank tomorrow!
Our 401k took a HUGE hit too...thank goodness this new house is actually our investment for the kids college fund!
I agree on the school conferences, and I am sure you look great :)
ReplyDeleteHere goes:
ReplyDeleteHOW CAN MY TAN ALREADY BE FADING WHEN I'VE ONLY BEEN BACK TWO DAYS????
I DON'T WANT TO READ THE 500+ THINGS IN MY GOOGLE READER BUT I'M TOO CHICKEN TO DELETE THEM IN CASE I MISS SOMETHING IMPORTANT.
WHY MUST EVERYONE KEEP ASKING ME WHEN I'M HAVING A BABY WHEN I'M STILL A NEWLYWED?
Ahhh. Big sigh.
Challenge taken! I posted a scream in my blog. Not that I don't do that all the time anyway. :) I added a link to you, the primal scream progenitor.

Oh, I love this one, Ellen! Here's mine:
ReplyDeleteDaniel's physiatrist injected the WRONG muscles when he had botox! I was so hopeful that the injections would help him. Instead, the doctor injected the muscles that were already weak instead of the tight ones, which really made things difficult for Daniel for about 6 long weeks. I don't know if I'm angrier at the doctor, or at myself for allowing it. Ugggh, I feel like the worst mom ever! =(
OK, thanks for allowing me to vent! By the way, while I'm a SAHM, I understand what you mean about the conferences! One would hope that the school would understand how much you have on your plate. Daniel's school likes to tell me between 24 hours and 15 minutes before the meeting - annoying, isn't it?
I have one too! This is perfect~
ReplyDeleteI just walked in the door from a day-long Preschool to Kindergarten Transitional meeting and I have this big rant...
First off~
COME TO A MEETING PREPARED. I KNOW THE AGENDA WAS SENT OUT WHICH INCLUDED ALL THE QUESTIONS WE WERE GOING TO ASK. IT WAS UNACCEPTABLE THAT YOU DO NOT KNOW...
A) THE CHILD'S DIAGNOSIS. YOU ARE THEIR TEACHER/THERAPIST. HOW DO YOU DO YOUR JOB IF YOU DON'T KNOW THIS?!!?!?
B) DO NOT SAY "I DON'T KNOW" AND TRY TO PASS IT OFF WITH A CUTE SMILE. YOU ARE NOT THERE TO BE CUTE. YOU ARE THERE AS A REPRESENTATIVE OF THAT CHILD AS THEIR TEACHER/THERAPIST. KNOW YOUR SH!T. THE D@MN QUESTIONS WERE SENT TO YOU!!!!
*whew* I really needed this. I literally just walked in the door and saw this on your blog. Thanks so much!!!
Because I have the day off from work today, I have time to jump on and scream some more. But first, wow, Johanna, I can't believe that story—WHAT did the doctor say? Did he apologize? Do not blame yourself at all, you meant to do well. And Botox can really work, if done right. I hope you took that mistake up with the doctor and, if necessary, his superior?! Ally, wow, I can't believe what you're dealing with. Whip those teachers/therapists into shape! And Lyla, you are ALWAYS tan-ish, so no sympathy from this paleface! Although it does bite to come back from vacation.
ReplyDeleteI AM OVER DEALING WITH AUTOMATED PHONE SYSTEMS AND, WORSE, NOT-SO-BRIGHT CUSTOMER SERVICE PEOPLE!
Ditto, Ditto, Ditto. I'd yell something, but my kids are finally sleeping!
ReplyDeleteGRRrrrr - kids, pick UP your TOYS. Not LATER, not In a MINUTE, not to the HALLWAY!! AWAY. NOW.
ReplyDeleteLego pieces hurt my heels.
Anyway - I totally agree with the school thing. Although there are a ton more lately, how many stay-at-home-moms do they think there are?? I can't remember ANY of my friends my age having a mom at home. We couldn't have afforded it!!! We only can now because daycare is even more expensive!!
loved this post... great idea! i have so much i could scream about at the moment, i would be up all night.............
ReplyDeleteECZEMA, ECZEMA, ECZEMA!!!! What the hell causes it? Why doesn't anything I do make it better?? How do you teach a 21 month old that scratching at it just makes it worse!!!
ReplyDeleteAND with so many allergies around these days, WHAT'S WITH THE LACK OF ALLERGY SPECIALISTS???? I RANG THE BEST OF THE BEST IN TOWN YESTERDAY ONLY TO BE TOLD THE RECEPTIONIST IS ONLY AVAILABLE FROM 9AM-NOON ONE DAY A WEEK!!! ANOTHER ONE TELLS ME THERE'S A SIX MONTH WAITING PERIOD AND I'VE BEEN INFORMED BY A FRIEND THAT THE WAITING PERIOD GOING THROUGH THE CITY'S CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL IS UP TO EIGHTEEN MONTHS!!!!
AAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!
Wow. That really does feel better! Thanks Ellen. Please open the scream doors again next week xo
Oh My God...I could write and write and write and...well, you get the idea.
ReplyDeleteHere are a few of my doozies in no particular order except the first is the MOST annoying and has to be *between us girls*. hee hee
1. My husband who claims that he can't hear the baby (who sleeps in our room) screaming in the middle of the night...yet I overhear him whine about his sleep deprivation because "the baby keeps me up at night" to anyone who will listen. It makes me want to throw up.
2. We just found out Gavin is allergic to our first baby...our dog, Lucy. *sigh* We'll miss you, Gavin. *WINK!!!*
3. People who come to the house to help Gavin but talk incessantly to me. And the talk is not about Gavin...it's about stuff I really don't care about. And stuff I don't have time to listen to!
4. Colic. Enough said.
Thanks, Ellen! You can send me the bill. That was worth it. Oh, and from your cute picture you look great to me! I'm sure your reunion will be a blast and that every single person walking in that room will have the same fear as you have. :-)

Okay, here goes:
ReplyDeleteOkay, can anyone tell me, how can someone look me in the face and tell me that untreated hydrocephalus and untreated bacterial meningitis had no impact on Nathan's development? Let me explain this a bit. When Nate was a few months old his stupid neurosurgeon let him go with untreated hydrocephalus for a few months - causing damange. Then the shunt got infected and the doctor let THAT go for 6 weeks. It's a miracle Nathan didn't die.
I was talking to a friend of mine who's a lawyer and telling her the story of Nathan's early life and she was like, Honey, that is ONE HUGE LAWSUIT waiting to happen.
Then I called a few law offices and was told by a few of them - How do I prove that the damage from those 2 things changed Nathan's quality of life?
MY GOSH PEOPLE. Hear, let me squeeze your brain till there's barely any left for 3.5 months. Then let me give you a bit of meningitis and leave it untreated for 6 weeks and then YOU TELL ME what that does to your quality of life.
If Nathan had been a normal child with a normal prognosis when this happened - no problem. But because it's brain injury on top of brain injury on top of brain injury - I can't prove it.
HELLLO????
And it makes me sick inside to think this doctor's negligence could affect other special kids needs knowing that a lawsuit would be almost impossible.
Ummm... Ellen.. I still don't feel better :-)
As a teacher, our jobs are day jobs, too. We have to take off to take our kids to doctors and dentist appointments. If we had to schedule conferences around everyone else's schdules, we'd be scraficing our families. As a teacher, we feel that twice year is not too much to ask to you to take part in a very crucial aspect of your child's development. This is equally as important as taking your child to the doctor. You are preparing them for lifelong success.
ReplyDeleteAs a parent, I hear you.
Try being a teacher and a parent. You are meeting with parents. How in the heck do you meet with your own child's teacher when the meetings are on the same day? Whoever said teaching is an ideal job if you had children was not accurate. You can't just up and leave 30 students to go to a party, see your child in a play, or all those fun things that happen during a child's schooling career.
Really great blog. Funny and honest. Found it on A Cup of Jo.
I left you a Meme AND a blog award on my blog!
ReplyDeleteI just got my 401K statement in the mail Crap, crap, crap is right!
ReplyDeleteslim means so little next to spirit. and yours is radiant.
ReplyDeletePEOPLE WHO EXPECT YOU TO DO THINGS, EVEN IF YOU HAVE A FULL TIME JOB, WHICH THEYLL NEVER UNDERSTAND ABOUT BECAUSE THEY WILL FOREVER LIVE OFF OF MUMMY AND DADDY.
ReplyDeleteXX
Wow! Just found this blog and this is exactly what I need! Even though looking at these makes my problems not so terrible. Here I go:
ReplyDeleteHONESTLY, IF YOU SEE SOMEONE'S THERMOS AND IT IS NOT YOURS WHAT DO YOU DO? BREAK IT AND FILL IT WITH SPAGHETTI IS NOT THE RIGHT ANSWER, MOM! NOT AT ALL!
I CAN'T GO FOR MY LICENCE BECAUSE THE STUPID PEOPLE AT THE STUPID CAR-FIXER PLACE ARE TOO BUSY TO FIX THE WINDSHEILD!
I CAN'T FINISH PAINTING MY ROOM BECAUSE MY SISTER MOVED OUT AND DIDN'T TAKE HER DAMN BED! I CAN'T GET IT OUT BECAUSE ITS TOO ENORMOUS TO GET DOWN THE STAIRS! HOW DID IT EVEN GET UP THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE? AND WHERE DO I PUT IT ONCE IT'S GONE?
AND WHEN DID GIRLS OF 16 GETS ENORMOUS BAGS UNDER THEIR EYES? AM I HONESTLY THAT TIRED?????
whew! Thanks! This blog is fun and totally bookmarked :D
Thanks for the nice words about the blog, everyone, I really appreciate them.
ReplyDelete• Marcela, I know, the stuff you can shout out in a few words in a blog can't express the major frustrations we deal with as parents of special-needs kids... For that, we'd need a conference, right?! And some therapy sessions for US. What you went through with Nathan is unimaginable.
• Jen, I wasn't blaming teachers for the parent-teacher conference thing, just the system! I know that teachers who are parents have their own scheduling challenges.
• Kate, I feel for you about the husband, and may I suggest you place the wailing baby right on top of his belly in the middle of the night? :)
• Victoria, you are so right that spirit matters more than size. In concept. I'd like to keep my plus-size spirit and slim down a bit! For health reasons, too.
• Dianne, the eczema sounds horrible! I left you some inspiration on your blog for badgering the allergists and getting an appointment! I am a master badgerer!
• Kylie, people who mooch off mom and dad indefinitely bug me, too. Unless they're Sabrina and Max. :)
• Nikki, you may just be the first teen reading this blog. Welcome! It's rated G. I think.
I will definitely be doing another primal scream Friday!!!
love your post. I also like all the info you have been giving. Thank you. My grandson is 2 and has CP and in spite of it is the most wonderful, awesome, loving, funny person I know. And, of course, I love him to bits.

Ellen, I didn't think you were, and as a parent, I can empathize. I can empathize even more because when my son has cute little things going on at school, I can't leave a class of 30 unattended. To be a parent!! I apologize to him all the time and he tells me it really isn't a big deal. Ithink at ten, he doesn't want Mom there to ruin his image! I talk to all his friends and get the scoop.
ReplyDeleteAnd I am sure you look great, too. Don't worry about your reunion.I just saw pictures of me that someone posted on Facebook from when I was in 8th grade and HS. I thought I needed to lose ten pounds back then. I was so warpped. Women are beautiful because of their spirit and their expriences. I wish society wasn't obsessed with stick thin unhealthy women.
Your blog is so cute! I am glad I found it!
